Families of elementary students are receiving letters (end of February 2004) about this change, including a listing of the uniform components along with information for families that may be eligible to receive assistance in connection with obtaining school uniforms. Uniform items can be purchased at retail outlets, thrift stores, and through stores that sell uniforms.
A decision to adopt uniforms has been made because Toledo Public Schools believes in developing policies and practices that promote a positive academic, social, and behavioral climate, and credible data indicates that the adoption of student uniform dress codes can improve a school district's overall educational climate."
