The 20th Century has turned the civilised world upside down - to what we understand to be civilised. The last century is a collage of fragments, each with its own atmosphere. Technological development has gone so fast that it is difficult to place the new achievements in perspective. Was it in the fifties or sixties that mum and dad, granny and grandad experienced this or that, or when did electricity, lighting and the television enter our living rooms. The recent past can feel very distant.
All this and much more can be experienced at Tidens Samling. We hope that you will find your visit both educational and amusing.
It is with great pleasure that I present the development of the 20th Century in Denmark. It has been my intention to re-create the atmosphere of the different periods of the last century. A living museum where you can experience and re-live the past. Where you can sit in the furniture, open the drawers, touch the exhibits and even try on the clothes.
I had always thougt that such a place was missing, where you could experience the recent past - so I decided to create it, and on the 3rd of March 1992 Tidens Samling opened. Since then it has, of course, developed. At the moment we have over 1000 square meters of storage, full with an evergrowing collection of relics from the last century. It is therefore still possible to supplement the permanent exhibition and to create new, interesting and innovative special exhibitions.
During the sixties when everyone was throwing everything out - I collected, our history and our background. The small insignificant things that tell stories you can not find in books. In 1970 I opened Bazar XLI, a mixture of a shop and an exhibition. From here I rented costumes to the general public and for a considerable number of historic films.
I still rent clothes and acessories for film, theatre and private parties through Bazar XLI and Nordisk Kostume Kompagni (see Nedergade link) as well as create "
