Library Journal - ProQuest Releases Ancestry Library Edition and NewspaperDirect: "ProQuest Information and Learning is partnering with genealogy outfit MyFamily.com to release an online genealogical research tool dubbed Ancestry Library Edition. The two said that the new offering will replace and supercede the current library product offering, AncestryPlus, which will be phased out over the coming year.

Improvement include a cleaner interface with more user-friendly search options,
ProQuest said, adding that the new database features key genealogical resources not previously available electronically to libraries, including New York and San Francisco passenger lists and New York Petitions for Naturalization Index.

ProQuest is offering the database on a site license to provide unlimited users with unrestricted access.

Additionally, ProQuest also has begun distributing NewpaperDirect, a print-on-demand service which includes 240 same-day newspaper titles from 70 countries and 30 languages. Newspapers can be printed on 11' x 17' paper in black & white. ProQuest said that NewspaperDirect assembles efeeds from its publishers overnight and enables a library to automatically download and print selected editions at copy stations within the library. With this service, libraries can select the number of copies and titles they desire to print and make available in their reading rooms. The print-on-demand product integrates with a library's digital printer or copier via NewspaperDirect's PrintStation software."
