Lapham of Kilmington, Somerset brilliant !!
the name first occurs in the Kilmington parish register in 1605. Since the registers begin in 1582, it is possible the family moved from somewhere else but there is no indication of where. The family appears to have been small farmers or farm labourers. The earliest Registration is of the marriage of John Lapham, Jr. and Alice Clement 16 Sept 1605. John apparently had two sisters, Mary and Edith who married in 1609. Unfortunately there is a serious gap in the registers. The missing period covers 1668 to 1705. Consequently it is not possible at this time to connect John Lapham directly to his later descendents.
