Thanks for the compliment. To answer your question, before I converted to a new template, I couldn't find another way to get a graphic to print in the heading AND get rid of the printed title, so I deleted the Title text (how, I can't remember) and input a image instead. I just thought it looked better.
you probably could modify the embedded css to chose another font to get the same effect - but my own blog style is to worry more about content more than appearances - I remember some early bloggers spending so much time on their own templates that they never wrote anything of consequence.
