Our objective is to provide free Internet searches of baptism, marriage, and burial records, that have been transcribed from parish and non-conformist registers of the U.K. FreeREG is a companion project to FreeBMD (a database of the GRO birth, marriage and death indexes from 1837) and FreeCEN (a database of census information).
To make FreeREG effective we are in URGENT need of volunteers willing to undertake the transcription of registers or make available their own transcriptions. (See Contributing to the project.)

FreeREG Status August/September 2006
Database loading is continuing we are now at 1.1 million entries with an increasing number of transcribers involved.

and is now searchable at http://www.freereg.org.uk/
