Professor Allen Weinstein, the newly appointed Archivist of the United
States, will open the NGS Conference in the States, 2006, in Chicago, IL
at the Opening Session on Wednesday 7th June at the Hyatt Regency
O'Hare.
Professor Weinstein, the son of Russian immigrants, is a noted
historian who received a PhD in American Studies from Yale University.
He served as a professor of history and American studies at Smith
College, Georgetown University, and Boston University. From 1985 through
2003, Dr. Weinstein was founder, President, and CEO of The Center for
Democracy which fostered initiatives in democratic transitions abroad
and served as a bridge in issue dialogues between political parties in
the United States. Most recently, he was a senior advisor at the
International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES).

At his recent swearing-in, he announced that he wanted to save essential electronic
government records and extend the archival experience to citizens
outside of Washington. He also called on the Bush administration to
reconsider its budget and to restore funding to the archives' grant
making wing.

The 2006 program focuses on immigration, military, land, cartographic,
postal, African American, legislative records, and more. One day at

For example, a 10x50 binocular produces a 5 mm exit pupil (objective size divided by the magnifying power).
For maximum efficiency, this image should match the diameter of the eye's pupil, which in dark environments grows to about 7mm.
This ratio is also a measure of the brightness of the image, the larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image reaching the eye.

Thus, 10x50 and 8x40 binoculars have the same brightness, although the latter has a smaller magnification.
An exit pupil larger than the diameter of the user's eye pupil wastes light.

One of the main aims of the WikiTree Project is to provide a central place on the Internet for kin information about all people we know ever lived, automatically construct bloodline trees, and watch the gradual emergence of global family forest of humanity. It might seem a huge undertaking, but in fact it is not. There is very little information that needs to be entered about any person - just name, names of his/her children, plus birth and death data; everything else can be inferred!

Home many times have any of you readers found yourselves in a cemetery trying to photograph a grave stone or marker with the sun at your back and all you have is your shadow covering the marker? Just step to the other side of the stone to let the sun shine on the marker, lean over it and snap away. When you have the photo or digital image processed, just turn it around and behold you have nice looking photograph with no shadows. No one can tell that you took the picture upside down.

Beecher Research: "English or German? What language did you earliest Beecher ancestors speak?

Many Beechers are of English origin. The first Beecher line to arrive in America was John Beecher who came in 1637 from Kent, England to Connecticut. They soon spread throughout New England, New York, northern Pennsylvania and eventually throughout the U.S. and Canada. Included in this line are the famous preachers, Lyman Beecher, Henry Ward Beecher, and his sister Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Some Beechers are using an Americanized version of their original Germanic surname, either the Swiss Bücher (pronounced like Beesher) or Becher or Becker from Germany (pronounced Beeker).

Around the 1820-1860 period (the 2nd or 3rd generation in America) they adopted Beecher as their surname. The major German-speaking Beecher ancestors arrived in Philadelphia in the early 1700's, spreading first in southeastern Pennsylvania before moving to Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and as far west as California.
