GUD BEVARE DANMARK

Hendes Majestæt Dronningens Nytårstale 2005
. . . . . . . .

The Queen of Demark's speech to the nation ended by suggesting if a year is like an annual (book), then some of the text is written by others and is beyond our control, but there is much we can write ourselves and help make the new edition for 2006 a good one for the country and the people.

Godfrey Library to Drop HeritageQuest Online

Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter: "the Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown, Connecticut, is in the process of dropping HeritageQuest Online from its portfolio of offerings. The information floating around online is confusing, and some comments that I read contradicted other online comments. I was bewildered. Today I talked with Godfrey Library Director Richard E. Black and received the 'inside story.
'
For several years, the Godfrey Memorial Library has offered in-home access to HeritageQuest Online's collection of the original images of U.S. census records, Revolutionary War Pension Applications, old family and local history books, and more. These services are normally available only to libraries, not to individual subscribers. Only a few years ago, to access any of HeritageQuest Online's databases you had to visit a library that had purchased a subscription to those databases. "

It seems ProQuest has decided that this "aggressive advertising" was a violation of the terms and conditions of the contract with the Godfrey Memorial Library. After some discussions between the two organizations, a decision was made to not renew the contract.

Google Blog Search Help
or FAQ

Blog Search is Google search technology focused on blogs. Google is a strong believer in the self-publishing phenomenon represented by blogging, and we hope Blog Search will help our users to explore the blogging universe more effectively, and perhaps inspire many to join the revolution themselves. Whether you're looking for Harry Potter reviews, political commentary, summer salad recipes or anything else, Blog Search enables you to find out what people are saying on any subject of your choice.
Your results include all blogs, not just those published through Blogger; our blog index is continually updated, so you'll always get the most accurate and up-to-date results; and you can search not just for blogs written in English, but in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and other languages as well.

We are working on ways to include older posts as well.

Blog Search indexes blogs by their site feeds, which will be checked frequently for new content. about 12 hours behind me

Five new repositories join A2A

A2A - Access to Archives | Home: "The A2A database was last updated in December 2005
and now catalogues 8.7 million filed items from 395 record offices and other repositories. "
The latest update to A2A (Access to Archives) - the English strand of the UK
archives network at http://www.a2a.org.uk - took place on Wednesday 21st
December 2005. We welcome the following new contributors: Warrington
Library Museum and Archives Service, Essex Record Office, the Army Medical
Services Museum (Army Dental Corps), the Alpine Club Archives and the
National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.

1,211 new catalogues were added to A2A. The database now contains 100,237
catalogues with 8.7 million entries at file/item level, describing archives
held in 395 record offices, libraries, museums and other repositories all
over England.

Six new projects are up for the first time:
* Alpine Club Archives: Records of the Alpine Club
* National Motor Museum: various records including personal papers relating
to motoring
* Cambridge University, King's College Archive Centre: various personal
papers
* Essex Record Office: Quarter Sessions and local government and authority
papers
* Isle of Wight Record Office: land deeds and estate papers
* Warrington Library, Museum and Archives Service: Beamont MSS
* Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine: personal
papers

New catalogues have been added from the following projects:
* Bell, Book and Candle (Tyne and Wear Archives Service) - non-conformists'
records

* Local Governance and the Community (Centre for Kentish Studies) - records
relating to local government

* Pay and Power (Dudley Archives and Local History Service) - business
records

* Reaching Out Across the Riding (East Riding of Yorkshire Archives and
Records Service
) - local authority, personal and estate papers

* Regimental Museums (Army Medical Services Museum: Royal Army Dental
Corps
) - records of the Dental Corps

* Sussex Parish Chest (East Sussex Record Office) - Parish and Poor Law
records

* Yorkshire Signpost (East Riding of Yorkshire Archives and Records
Service
) - various papers including personal and land records
The What's New section of the home page now links through to a list of A2A
contributors via the "395 record offices" link. Each name in the list as a
link to the ARCHON database, and also to a list of that repository's
materials in A2A.

Additionally there have been house-keeping amendments to the A2A database,
tidying up indexing and removing duplicate entries.

To see the new catalogues at a glance, you can restrict your A2A search by
using the "Dates of Catalogues" feature on the standard Search page, then
sorting the results by "Location of Archive".

A list of the new finding aid titles is available from the 'new this month'
link on the right of the home page. You can search and browse A2A
catalogues from the home page by clicking on the Search button or the
magnifying glass icon.
A2A has now been searched 7.9 million times since launch and there have been
18.9 million catalogue downloads as a result.

RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Ørum Pitzner

I took a trip on this snowy afternoon to help my friend Hedvig with her web pages of letters in danish and german from Moscow to Copenhagen written by her father Svend Ørum (1886-1975) between 1916-1919

He was treated as a son by his Moscow landlady's Schwallbach family and married their daughter Olga.

General Land Office Records Web Site Reconnected in BLM-Eastern States

Home - BLM GLO Records: "Welcome to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), General Land Office (GLO) Records Automation web site. We provide live access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States. We also provide image access to more than two million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908. Images of Serial patents (land titles issued between 1908 and the mid-1960's) are currently being added to this web site. Due to organization of documents in the GLO collection, this site does not currently contain every Federal title record issued for the Public Land States."

General Land Office Records Web Site
Reconnected in BLM-Eastern States

The Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States announced that its
General Land Office (GLO) Records Web site is now back on line at
www.glorecords.blm.gov. Title companies, historians, genealogists,
and other interested people can now once again obtain millions of
historic land title records from the thirty Public Land States (those
States not included in the original 13 Colonies), East and West,
dating back to the 1780s. These fascinating and valuable records
include homesteads, patents, military warrants, and railroad
grants. To date more than 4.2 million records have been scanned and
imaged since the project began in 1989. This Web site provides a
wealth of historical data and literally tells the story of the
settlement of the West.

"The GLO Records Web site is one of the most popular Web sites at the
Department of the Interior. The Web site offers customers the
ability to easily research and query the GLO database by name, land
description, and county, and view and print these historic documents
from their homes or offices, saving them time and money," said
BLM-Eastern States Director Mike Nedd.

As the BLM completes its first round of Web site reconnections of
State-specific information sites, the following other BLM State
Office Web sites are also once again available on the
Internet: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New
Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. In addition, the BLM's Wild Horse and
Burro Information site is also now available. The Bureau originally
disconnected these sites so that site security could be improved.

"We at BLM recognize the impact that this disconnection has had on
our customers, and we thank them for their patience and understanding
during this period. The last six months have posed challenges, but
making sure that all constituents receive timely information about
the agency's actions has been a priority for the entire agency," said
Mike Nedd.

The BLM is now concentrating on reconnecting sites that provide
interactive non-Indian Trust data and services. Unfortunately, sites
of this kind are more complex and time consuming to
reconnect. Additional announcements will be made as other sites are
reconnected.
